An alleged case of sexist violence has hit the leadership of the National Police in Tenerife.
A judge has opened proceedings against the chief commissioner of Tenerife who, according to sources consulted by this newspaper, has been suspended from employment and salary and, therefore, his regulation weapon has been removed. Luis Felipe San Martín had been in office for two years. The complaint comes from a woman - her ex-partner - who, as explained by the same sources, claimed that the police commissioner of Santa Cruz de Tenerife subjected her to abuse a few months ago in her home.
Apparently, the woman provided evidence. The Violence Against Women Court number 1 of Tenerife has imposed a 500-meter restraining order on the commissioner with respect to his ex-partner, as confirmed by this newspaper.
The complaint was processed by the Family and Women's Assistance Unit (UFAM) of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and was filed by a member of the police force after the woman told him what happened and asked him to help her. San Martín would have threatened his ex-girlfriend with the service weapon in the house they both shared.
The court has already taken a statement from him and the victim and has imposed a restraining order.
