"Tatort" and "Polizeiruf 110": This is how the Sunday crime season 2021/22 went

With the "Polizeiruf 110" from Magdeburg, the Sunday thriller in the first part says goodbye to the summer break. The season offered an illustrious interplay between sometimes low-tension emotional cinema and highly exciting entertainment. We look back.

There were 36 "Tatort" cases recorded in the 2021/2022 season, it started with "Whoever hesitates is dead", "Frankfurt absurd" was the title of colleague Julian Vetten and awarded 7 out of 10 points. "Polizeiruf 110" had six episodes, the series started with "Bis midnight" in September, focusing on what was probably the most influential character of the "110" season, Bessie Eyckhoff, played by shooting star Verena Altenberger. 9 out of 10 points, that's the score for "Bessie and the Old Bag".

Viewers for calendar year 2021 averaged 9.2 million, the highest number in five years. The ratings kings from Münster recorded their weakest rating in ten years with "Propheteus" (11.03 million/34.5%), in Zurich one would be in the case of "Schattenkinder" (6.85 million/22.3% ) must have been happy about such numbers. But Boerne and Thiel also scored points at the upper end of the scale. The anniversary episode "The Devil's Long Breath" (14.16 million/41.6%), the 40th joint case of the two, ensured an absolute dream rate.

It was a year of farewells. Sascha Bukow alias Charly Hübner took his hat off in Rostock. The "Polizeiruf 110" episode "None of us" was announced with a lot of secrecy. At the end there were a lot of tears, until Bukow was somewhat unspectacular from the court. Incomparably more impressive, not to say more shocking, the death of Martina Bönisch (Anna Schudt), who fell victim to a bullet after 22 cases in ten years in "Love Me", leaving a completely destroyed Faber (Jörg Hartmann) behind. And also in Berlin there was a sad farewell. Nina Rubin (Meret Becker) suffered the same fate with "The girl who goes home alone".

Where something ends, there usually something new begins, this also applies to the "crime scene" and the "police call". In Rostock it stayed in the family, so to speak, Bukow's successor turned into a witty personal castling. Charly Hübner's partner Lina Beckmann took over and made a convincing debut with an "amazing naturalness" in "One Can't Choose Your Family" a "Police Call 110".

The 2021/22 season delivers brilliant darklings, cases that gave the psycho and horror zosse a lot more spurs than usual. Uwe Preuss, for example, as a conservative-evil killer in the Frankfurt case "Darkness". Or "Borowski and the Shadow of the Moon", a "visually stunning and strongly told film" that reminded of the hitchhiker murders of the 70s. Most recently, the Bremen "Love Rage" with its gaudy equipment, so rich in effects and crude types, heated people's minds.

"Dreams", with Batic and Leitmayr, was one of the very few episodes of "Tatort" that did not have a death, but did have some lucid dreams. The celebrity guest in Charlotte Lindholm's "Everything comes back" under the direction of Detlev Buck was also fantastic: none other than drummer Udo Lindenberg showed up with his essential hat.

Less likeable Borowski's "silent guest" from then and now: For the third - and unfortunately last time - Lars Eidinger hypnotized the audience as Kai Korthals. Elsewhere he appeared again: in the "wonderfully spun family constellation" with Felix Murot (Ulrich Tukur), "The Principle of Hope". The perfect transition to the final sentence: Let's hope that the upcoming crime season on ARD will be exciting, intense and entertaining again with "Tatort" and "Polizeiruf 110". We wish you a criminally happy summer.
