Goethe from Schalkau (both in the district of Sonneberg) and the support center Am Fernebach in Bruchstedt (Unstrut-Hainich district), as announced by the Ministry of the Environment.

The projects submitted included planting and tending a meadow orchard, creating so-called feel-good islands in the schoolyard with solar cell phone charging stations or cultivating a herb meadow. "Ideas for environmental and climate protection and a strong sense of togetherness were born here," said Environment Minister Anja Siegesmund (Greens). Education Minister Helmut Holter (left) explained after the announcement that "particularly in these tense times" it is particularly important to raise children's and young people's awareness of the careful and sustainable use of resources.

According to the Environment Ministry, schools in Thuringia have received awards for their special commitment to ecological, economic and social issues since 1995. The title "Thuringian Sustainability School - Environmental School in Europe" is awarded every two years. As part of the award event, the environment and education ministries extended their cooperation for the project until 2024. The next registration as a sustainability school is possible from August 1st to December 16th, 2022 at the latest.
