Thuringia: Alleged IS terrorist has to answer in Jena

Jena (dpa/th) - A suspected member of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) is to be tried at the Thuringian Higher Regional Court (OLG) in Jena. The state protection senate approved the federal prosecutor's charge against the woman, the OLG announced on Monday. The main hearing is scheduled to begin on March 21 and is scheduled for seven dates. The federal prosecutor accuses the woman of membership in a terrorist organization abroad, violations of gun laws and aiding and abetting in bodily harm. According to an OLG spokeswoman, the woman comes from Thuringia.

Officials from the Federal Police and the Federal Criminal Police Office arrested the woman in 2019 when she returned to Germany at Frankfurt Airport. She has been in custody ever since.

According to an earlier statement by the federal prosecutor, the woman entered Syria via Turkey in March 2015, joined IS there and married an IS fighter according to Islamic rites. The woman has a daughter with him, whom she brought up in accordance with the IS ideology. The accused took part in religious and language courses run by the terrorist organization and tried to win other women in Germany over to IS. For example, she owned a rapid-fire rifle and supported the organization with money. After she surrendered, she is said to have cheered on another inmate in a Kurdish camp in Syria when she physically abused an alleged "apostate".
