Thuringia: attack on right-wing extremists: the accused was involved

Meiningen (dpa/th) - In the trial for an attack on a right-wing extremist in Eisenach, the accused admitted his involvement in the crime. At the start of the proceedings, which took place under massive police protection, the 30-year-old admitted on Monday before the Meiningen district court that he had spied on the later victim so that other left-wing extremists could attack him. The right-wing extremist was attacked in December 2019 in front of his house in Eisenach and, according to the public prosecutor, was beaten with fists and pepper spray.

The 30-year-old is considered a key witness in the proceedings before the Dresden Higher Regional Court against the alleged left-wing extremist Lina E. In the trial in Meiningen, the accused described his life in detail. He grew up in Bavaria and "had a good family home," he said. He came into contact with political ideas at school and was active in a youth Antifa group. Then he became more radical and saw violence as a legitimate means of fighting political opinions.

In the meantime, he had left the left-wing extremist scene, said the accused. Today he has completely different goals in life: "I just want to lead a middle-class life, preferably with a terraced house."
