Thuringia: BUND: climate protection measures necessary for energy crisis

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The environmental and nature conservation organization BUND Thüringen warns against putting different crises in competition. Massive investments in renewable energies and permanent energy savings are needed - without the climate crisis, species extinction and social security being played off against each other, said managing director Sebastian König at the state assembly on Saturday in Erfurt. The state association therefore continues to campaign decisively for an end to the use of fossil fuels. All political measures should be based on the principles of ecological and social sustainability, future compatibility and resilience.

"The Russian war of aggression in Ukraine clearly shows us the failures of recent years," said BUND Thuringia chairman Robert Bednarsky. Those who most urgently needed support would have to be relieved in a targeted manner. However, the measures taken should not "put our livelihood at risk".

The members of the state association spoke out unanimously in favor of accelerating the expansion of nature-friendly renewable energies and strengthening ecosystems. An ecological and sustainable social energy supply creates long-term social security.
