Thuringia: Cottbuser Shepherd wins Stander Cup in Erfurt

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Stefan Schäfer from Cottbus won the "Oßwald Steher Cup" on Friday evening on the cycle track in Erfurt's Andreasried. After winning the stayer Grand Prix at the start of the season in May, the four-time German champion with the Erfurt pacesetter Gerhard Gessler prevailed in front of 1800 spectators in the second stayer race of the season in Erfurt.

After three runs he relegated the German champion Christoph Schweizer (Aachen) with five points to second place with the Bielefeld pacemaker Andre Dippel (6). Third place went to last year's winner Stefan Harnisch (Leipzig) with pacemaker Peter Bäuerlein (Nuremberg) ahead of the Chemnitz duo Robert Retschke/Holger Ehnert.

Schäfer had won the first of the two runs over 25 kilometers and finished second in the second and third run. Retschke won the second run. In the final third run, Schweizer won.
