Thuringia: First woman to head the Attorney General's Office

Jena (dpa/th) - In Thuringia, for the first time, a woman is at the head of the public prosecutor's office. On Thursday, Marlies Lindner, previously head of department and representative of the former head of the authorities, was officially taken into office by Minister of Justice Dirk Adams (Greens) in Jena. Lindner, born in 1964, has worked at the Attorney General's Office since 2007. The previous Attorney General Andreas Becker retired at the end of June. The position had already been filled on July 1.

The general public prosecutor's office based in Jena is the superior authority of the four Thuringian public prosecutor's offices in Erfurt, Gera, Mühlhausen and Meiningen. It decides, for example, on complaints against their decisions, such as the termination of investigations. It also investigates in the first instance, for example in certain state protection criminal proceedings.
