Thuringia: long-distance travel and "do it yourself" are trendy

Erfurt (dpa/th) - After a good two years of the corona pandemic, many people are in the mood for a longer trip this year. The trend is going back to planning and booking long-distance travel, said Constanze Kreuser, managing director of the exhibition company Ram Regio, on Thursday before the travel and caravan fair in Erfurt. Above all, however, the caravanning boom is unbroken. "More and more vacationers are gripping the mobile home fever," said Kreuser. Interested parties would be significantly younger. However, the trend is moving away from the luxurious camper to the van, i.e. to the vehicle suitable for everyday use - which is increasingly being expanded in homework. "Do it yourself" is definitely more pronounced, said Kreuser.

The offer at this year's "Travel and Caravan" trade fair in Erfurt is also based on this: From October 28th to 31st, two thirds of the 289 exhibitors are tourism providers. But there are also twelve caravan brands and 41 motorhome brands with 210 vehicles on the exhibition grounds.

Malta will have its trade fair premiere this year. The archipelago in the Mediterranean between Sicily and the coast of North Africa is represented by the Tourist Office. In addition to Malta, there are three other international tourist offices in Croatia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. With 15 direct registrations, the exhibitors from Austria are again this year the largest European group in terms of numbers. That is not surprising, since the Thuringians liked to travel to the neighboring Alpine country, it was said. A large area of the fair is nevertheless again dedicated to national tourism. Because many holidaymakers in Germany have preferred destinations in their home region and in Germany since the beginning of the corona pandemic.
