Thuringia: "Ludwig Bohnstedt: The architect as artist" in Gotha

Gotha (dpa/th) - From Sunday the show "Ludwig Bohnstedt - The Architect as Artist" can be seen in the exhibition cabinet of the Ducal Museum Gotha. According to the Stiftung Schloss Friedenstein Gotha, a generous donation of works is an opportunity to honor Bohnstedt in a special exhibition. The inventory on the Friedenstein is now the most extensive collection of drawings, watercolours, oil paintings and studies by Bohnstedt and his children in the world, the foundation informed.

Bohnstedt (1822-1885) was born 200 years ago. He was a senator and freelance architect for the city of Gotha. The special exhibition will be on display until January 15, 2023. It was said that the collection simply belonged in Gotha because of the local proximity and proximity in terms of content.

Unlike before, curator Ulrike Eydinger will focus on works that illuminate the visual artist Bohnstedt. On display are figurative and architectural travel sketches from the time of his training, study sheets in oil, watercolor and pencil, portraits of friends and family, and charts of buildings. It is the first time that an exhibition is dedicated solely to the artist Bohnstedt and his work.
