Apolda (dpa/th) - After the fire in an apartment building in Apolda, the number of injured rose to 14. Twelve residents and two firefighters were injured in the fire early Sunday morning, police said. The fire started in the attic and then spread to the whole house. The house is uninhabitable.
A 53-year-old man tried to escape from the flames by jumping out of a window and died. Hours later, firefighters found a body in the home. The police could not provide any information on the identity on Monday morning. The body has not yet been recovered from the apartment building. A police spokesman said that a structural engineer had to inspect the house first.
