Saxony: start of school: the police are increasingly checking the way to school

The summer holidays are over for a good 500,000 schoolchildren. To ensure that they get to school safely, the police want to intensify their checks in the near future.

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - At the beginning of the new school year, the police in Saxony announced increased speed and traffic controls in the coming weeks. The Ministry of the Interior announced that the "School has started" campaign is intended to increase the safety of the children - especially the first graders. Stickers on school buses and police vehicles should also remind drivers of the school beginners. The traffic safety campaign is organized jointly by the police and the Association of the Saxon Transport Industry.

School starts again on Monday for 502,200 girls and boys in Saxony. That is 8150 more than in the previous school year. The 40,900 first-graders also include 630 girls and boys who came to Saxony as war refugees. A total of around 10,000 Ukrainian children had registered to attend school.
