Waffenrod-Hinterrod (dpa/th) - Burglemnitz in the Saale-Orla district is the winner of the state competition "Our village has a future". The small Angerdorf with about 100 inhabitants received a prize of 5000 euros and will represent Thuringia in the national competition next year. The jury was impressed by how people were brought together and kept together with joint creative projects in the place, said Minister of Infrastructure Susanna Karawanskij (left) on Saturday at the award ceremony in Waffenrod-Hinterrod.
All nine villages that qualified for the competition had presented themselves very well under difficult pandemic conditions, the minister explained. Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) said: "This competition gives the villages a stage to report on the diversity and beauty of our Thuringian homeland." Demographic change would remain a major challenge, especially for rural regions.
