Erfurt (dpa/th) - The president of the Thuringian district council, Martina Schweinsburg, has sharply criticized the financial policy of the red-red-green state government. "I've never experienced such chaos," said the CDU politician on Wednesday at the district assembly in Erfurt. She was reacting to the postponement of the state parliament decision on the 2023 budget to next week. She is curious "whether the budget will be whipped through this year".
Schweinsburg appealed to the state parliament to comply with all rules when passing the budget in order to secure the state's payments to districts, cities and municipalities in the required amount. She pointed out that the municipalities had only now received the 49.5 million euros promised this year for the accommodation of Ukrainian war refugees.
The president of the district council called for binding commitments from the state to cover the costs of refugee accommodation for 2023, as well as a higher flat rate per refugee. "We can't accommodate, feed and take care of anyone for 210 euros a month," she said. "We have our backs to the wall and need solutions from January 1, 2023."
