Thuringia: problem of refugee accommodation: CDU wants special session

Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to the CDU parliamentary group, the Thuringian municipalities are facing growing problems with the accommodation of Ukrainian war refugees. "The situation in the districts continues to deteriorate and is sometimes taking on dramatic features," explained migration policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Stefan Schard, on Thursday in Erfurt. The CDU, as the largest opposition faction, has therefore requested a special session of the migration committee of the state parliament.

The red-red-green minority government is not acting despite the cries for help from the municipalities and is just watching, Schard said. On Thursday, however, a switching conference on the subject between government representatives, district administrators and mayors was planned.

The parliamentary manager of the CDU parliamentary group, Andreas Bühl, describes a demand by the state government on the federal government to provide financial help for the modernization of apartments as cheeky. The problem lies with the state, which despite commitments does not sufficiently implement the financing of housing for municipalities and private individuals. There is a lack of coordinated action in the reception of refugees. The budgets of the municipalities already got into trouble because of the accommodation costs.

The problems would have to be discussed in detail in the migration committee, according to the CDU parliamentary group. She submitted a 22-point catalog of questions.
