Erfurt (dpa/th) - The number of people in employment in Thuringia fell by around 6,800 in 2021, contrary to the nationwide trend. That is a drop of 0.7 percent compared to the previous year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Thursday in Erfurt. In manufacturing alone, 4800 jobs (minus 2.3 percent) were lost. Across Germany, the number of people in employment rose slightly by 65,000 people (plus 0.1 percent). In Thuringia it went back in 2021 for the third time in a row. On an annual average, 1,019,400 people had a job in Bavaria.

There were significantly different developments depending on the economic sector. With an increase of 1,100 people (1.5 percent), the strongest increase was in public administration, defense and social security. There were further declines in the hospitality industry with 2000 people (minus 5.7 percent), in the construction industry with 1300 (minus 1.8 percent) and in the trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles with 1100 people (minus 0.9 percent).
