Thuringia: These were strange police operations in Thuringia in 2022

Car accidents, burglaries and robberies are daily business for the police in the Free State. But many a mission in 2022 made for an amusing change - including a kangaroo.

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Sometimes stories that make you smile are hidden between everyday crimes and serious accidents. Whether it was a false alarm because of sausages or a billy goat that likes to drive a car - the Thuringian police had many a curious mission in 2022. A review.

Barbecue in summer? Anyone can do that. A family of four in Erfurt probably thought so or something similar. A caller reported smoke in a garden area in mid-January and alerted the fire brigade. On site, it turned out that the family was only ringing in the barbecue season there - with original Thuringian grilled sausages.

But it's not just sausages that can trigger false alarms: early one morning in August in the district of Gotha, a man thought he heard a little boy calling loudly for his mother from the direction of the outdoor pool. He then notified the police. On site, officers determined that the noise was not made by a child. What the man had heard was a crowing rooster from the neighborhood. Just as loud, but less dramatic. lucky!

A visitor to the historic Bismarck Tower in Jena was less fortunate. After enjoying the beautiful view from a height of 15 meters, he wanted to leave the tower again. But the tower keeper had inadvertently locked the doors. The problem: The man didn't have a cell phone with him. So he made himself known with calls for help - with success. A little later, "the male Rapunzel was able to safely leave his prison tower," according to the police.

The police were also on duty in October in the forest near Gräfenthal to help an 82-year-old. The lady got lost and was stuck. She was located via GPS and guided out of the forest.

A 42-year-old man in the south-west of Schmalkalden went on a veritable booze tour with a blood alcohol content of 5.5. He first stole a bottle of liquor from a gas station. A little later he was caught with another bottle in a grocery store and then moved on to the next store, where he quickly emptied two bottles in front of the staff. Officials brought the liquor thief home. However, the 42-year-old only slept off his intoxication for a short time and then went on a thieving spree again. He was taken into custody and released the following day with several charges.

What the police expected from a search in the Kyffhäuser district was rather unusual. When the officers arrived at the scene with their car, a witness said: "Be careful, he likes to drive". A billy goat climbed onto the back seat of the car and made himself comfortable there. Nevertheless, there was no jaunt.

A kangaroo also caused animal excitement - and triggered a rear-end collision near Sonneberg in October. The driver suddenly had to brake because of the animal hopping across the road. It could have been the kangaroo from the zoo in Sonneberg, which escapes from time to time and is out and about outside the zoo. As early as May, a kangaroo got lost on private property in Sonneberg and had to be caught again.
