Erfurt (dpa/th) - The Thuringians are now taking more time with the property tax return. "Since the deadline was extended, fewer and fewer Thuringians are submitting their property tax returns. I see the implementation of the reform as a whole at risk," said Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD) on Friday in Erfurt. Since the federal and state governments decided in mid-October to extend the deadline for property tax returns once until January 31, 2023, the tax offices have received fewer and fewer declarations.
According to the ministry, between 8,000 and 10,000 property tax returns were received in Thuringia every day before the deadline was extended. At the moment there are only an average of 1,000 to 2,000 declarations a day. The worst value was achieved last Saturday with only 888 declarations.
Taubert: "If the receipt of the declaration is shifted further back, the employees in the tax offices will have less time to process the bulk of the cases by the end of 2023. Unfortunately, the loss of time will then be at the expense of the municipal preparations for the property tax collection from 2025."
