Weimar (dpa/th) - There was an attempt to break into the Anna Amalia Library in Weimar, which is internationally known for its rococo hall. As the police announced on Sunday, signs of burglary such as a smashed window and a broken door were found in the historic library building. But nothing was stolen. After examining the incident, which was already established on Friday, criminalists came to the conclusion that the alleged perpetrator or perpetrators did not get beyond the anteroom.

The broken door lies between the main building and the book tower of the library. There is damage to property in the order of 3500 to 4000 euros. Also being investigated for trespassing. Extensive traces and evidence were secured, the police said.

According to the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, the Duchess Anna Amalia Library is a publicly accessible archive and research library for European literary and cultural history. The focus is on the period between 1750 and 1850.
