Thuringia: Tram switches in Jena blocked with steel bars

Jena (dpa/th) - Unknown persons repeatedly disrupted tram traffic in Jena at the weekend with steel bars and stones. Despite the dangerous situations, no one was injured, the police reported on Sunday. According to the information, on Sunday morning there was a traffic sign with a two-meter-long pole and a garbage can across the track bed between the Lobeda-West and Emil-Wölk-Straße stops. The tram driver recognized the obstacle in time and initiated emergency braking.

A few hours earlier, strangers had blocked five points on the tram tracks on Stadtrodaer Strasse with steel rods so that they could no longer be adjusted electronically. As early as Saturday night there were around 40 track bed stones on a switch at the track triangle in Karl-Marx-Allee. As a result, trams were initially unable to continue.

The police are investigating the dangerous intervention in rail traffic and are looking for witnesses.
