Thuringia: Verdi calls for warning strikes in Jena

Jena/Erfurt (dpa/th) - In the collective bargaining dispute in the public sector, the Verdi union called on municipal employees in Jena to go on a all-day warning strike on Wednesday. The union said day-care centers and the city administration were affected by work stoppages. A discussion with state politicians and representatives of the Thuringia Association of Municipalities and Cities is planned for 10 a.m., and a rally in the city center in the afternoon.

In collective bargaining for federal and local employees, the unions are demanding 10.5 percent more money, but at least 500 euros for a period of 12 months.

Verdi announced a warning strike for the Helios hospital in Erfurt, which is about a company wage agreement. It is scheduled for Wednesday between 6:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. The care of the sick would be guaranteed. The Verdi collective bargaining commission is demanding 10.5 percent more money for the approximately 21,000 employees in the Helios group collective agreement.
