Bavaria: Warning strike wave hits daycare centers and clinics in Bavaria

Munich (dpa / lby) - For thousands of children and parents in Bavaria, the daycare center will remain closed today: the Verdi union has called for a large industry strike day. In addition to daycare centers, there are also facilities for the disabled, clinics and social services on strike on International Women's Day.

Verdi wants to push through 10.5 percent more wages for the 2.5 million federal and local employees nationwide, but at least 500 euros more a month. Employers offer five percent more for a two-year term and a one-off payment of 2,500 euros. The third round of negotiations is in three weeks.

Verdi chairman Frank Werneke rejected calls for an emergency operation for all strikes in the public sector. Employers and CDU politicians called for this "not only in hospitals, but also in garbage collection, also on buses and trains, in daycare centers," said Werneke on Tuesday and countered: "The right to strike is our fundamental right, it has constitutional status."

After Verdi limited the warning strikes in Bavaria to Augsburg on Tuesday, strikes are planned almost everywhere in the Free State, with a focus on daycare centers. The trade union in Munich and the surrounding area, Augsburg, Kempten, Ingolstadt, Schweinfurt and Upper Franconia called for the industry strike day for social and educational services. In Landsberg, the Lebenshilfe is affected, in Munich the Pfennigparade and other facilities for the disabled.

In Middle Franconia, the aid for the disabled, the AWO facilities and the clinics in Nuremberg, Nürnberger Land, Schwabach, Fürth, Dr. Erler, AN Regiomed and the district clinics in Central Franconia are on strike. In Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria, strikes have been announced in offices and in the RoMed clinics, in Bad Aibling at the rehabilitation clinic of the German pension insurance. Strikes are also planned in Regensburg.
