Thuringia: Weimar awards this year's human rights prize

Weimar (dpa/th) - This year's human rights prize of the city of Weimar is to be awarded on Saturday (5 p.m.) to Irina Scherbakova, who is one of the founding members of the human rights organization "Memorial", which is banned in Russia. The organization also received this year's Nobel Peace Prize. Together with Scherbakova, the city of Weimar also honors Olga Karatch (Belarus), who founded the human rights organization "Nash Dom - Our House".

The Weimar Prize is awarded annually on December 10, the International Human Rights Day declared by the UN. It is endowed with 5000 euros.
