Thuringia: Werner: Investments for hospitals not ideal

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Health Minister Heike Werner considers the state financial injections for hospital investments in Thuringia to be too low. "I'll be honest: I'm not satisfied with our investment support," she told the newspapers of the Funke media group (Saturday). Investments in hospitals are needed now and not only in the future.

According to the minister, the state has contributed around 60 million euros in funding in recent years. This year it is 62 million euros.

"And the draft budget for 2023 also provides for a slight increase in both the funds and the commitment appropriations for construction projects. Unfortunately, that was all we could do," said Werner.

The minister announced the decision of the state government on a new Thuringian hospital plan for the second quarter of 2024 - and thus shortly before the end of the regular legislative period of the red-red-green minority government. As a non-city state and in rural areas, Thuringia needs basic and emergency care close to home. This can only be maintained if it is also remunerated. Werner reiterated her position that all previous clinic locations would be needed, "but we have to come to a tiered supply".
