Tour de France. Positive for Covid-19: Guillaume Martin leaves Grande Boucle

The Covid-19 continues its destructive work in the peloton. After the retirements of Geoffrey Bouchard, (AG2R Citroen), and Vegard Take Laengen (UAE Team Emirates), Guillaume Martin will not be starting the 9th stage between Aigle et Chatel. After experiencing symptoms the previous day, Cofidis' leader tested positive for Covid-19. The Frenchman finished 14th in the 109th Tour de France edition, just 3'02'' ahead of Tadej Paogacar, the leader. He remained unabandoned for 362 days of racing.

"We conducted some internal testing. We had a suspicious result. After the UCI revealed the results of a new test this morning, it will be the UCI that will inform the runner. Guillaume Martin's departure was announced by Radio Peloton, the tour's radio station. This was confirmed by his absence from Aigle where the peloton will depart at 12:30 (fictitious start).
