Universities: Uni Magdeburg becomes "European University"

The Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg will be part of a joint European campus under the title "European University". A "green" university network of nine universities, which was founded a few months ago, will receive over 14 million euros from the European Union for the development of joint, sustainable university structures and programs, as the university in Magdeburg announced on Friday.

This is a "great success" for the university network and has enormous potential for the university, the city and the region, according to the Rector of the University of Magdeburg, Jens Strackeljan. "Our campus will change because the European idea will be much more present." The aim of the university is that in the future 15 percent of the almost 4,000 international students will come from the EU.

According to the information, the University of Magdeburg will receive 2 million euros for transnational study programs and research projects over the next four years. The money is also to be used for transparent and digital administrative processes. According to the university, students, researchers and employees can switch between the European institutions without any hurdles and use the experience, strengths and potential of everyone together and develop intercultural skills.

There were a total of 31 applications from university alliances in the current call for applications for the title "European University", four of which were successful. The university alliance "EU Green" consists of nine universities from Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Sweden, Poland, Ireland, Romania and the University of Magdeburg in Germany.
