Europe at war Giorgia Meloni rules out sending fighters to Ukraine: "It's not on the table"

The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, ruled out today during her visit to Kiev that her government send combat planes to Ukraine, after Italian media published information suggesting this possibility in recent days.

"I think you have to say things by name: currently the supply of aircraft is not on the table," Meloni told a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, answering a question from a Ukrainian journalist.

The Italian prime minister added that the final decision "will be taken with international partners", and reaffirmed that her government and other allies are "focusing above all at this stage on the issue of air defense systems."

Meloni recalled that Italy has just approved its sixth military aid package for Ukraine, which includes anti-aircraft systems to help Ukraine protect critical infrastructure such as the electricity grid from Russian bombing.
