Today, Friday February 3, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of San Blas.
He was a doctor and bishop who was beheaded in the fourth century during the persecutions of Christians.
According to tradition, Blas de Sebaste -a city in Armenia of which he was bishop- was known for his gift of miraculous healing. It is considered that San Blas saved a child from choking to death due to a fish bone being stuck in his throat.
For this reason, San Blas is the patron saint of throat patients and otorhinolaryngologists.
In his homage, the tradition of eating the San Blas donuts was also created on this day, previously blessed in a mass in honor of the saint.
