Inflation rises to 5.8% YoY during June

According to a provisional estimate by INSEE published on Thursday, June 30, the French consumer price rise accelerated to 5.8% in June, compared to 5.2% in May.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, inflation is caused by an increase in food and energy prices that increased by 33.1% compared with June 2021.

Consumer prices rose by 0.7% in June, similar to the previous month, and 0.4% in April.

INSEE doesn't specify in the first estimate the amount of the price rise for 20% of the population with low incomes. This figure is used to reassess minimum wage once this increase reaches 2 %.

According to the INSEE press release, energy prices will accelerate substantially in line with petroleum products over the next month.

The June services prices rose by 3.2% year-on-year, the same as in May, but the pace of the manufactured goods prices slowed to 2.6% compared to 3.0% in May.

The harmonized consumer price Index, which is used as a basis for European comparisons in Europe, increased by 6.5% in June compared to 5.8% in May.
