Politics Ramón Tamames agrees to be the candidate for Vox's motion of no confidence

The economist and politician Ramón Tamames has accepted Vox's offer to lead the motion of censure that Santiago Abascal's party will present in Congress against the government of Pedro Sánchez. He will officially announce it this Wednesday. This was confirmed by the former deputy of the PCE himself this Tuesday during the session of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, as confirmed to EL MUNDO by two attendees at the meeting.

The name of Ramón Tamames has returned to the forefront of politics this February. At the beginning of the month it was confirmed that Vox had thought of him to lead the parliamentary offensive against Pedro Sánchez, announced after the successive reforms of the Criminal Code and the reductions in sentences and releases that have allowed the approval of the law of only yes is yes.

The 89-year-old economist has recently met Santiago Abascal on various occasions and postponed the announcement of his decision several times. However, in an interview with this newspaper on February 3, he already threatened to accept the offer: "If I don't lead Vox's motion, I may regret it all my life," he confessed.

To date, the party has kept a low profile on the matter and set the deadline of the end of the month for the presentation of the motion. This same Monday, the number three of the party, Jorge Buxadé, returned to throw balls out when asked about the details of the negotiation: "he is closer today than last Monday."

The numbers of the motion, in any case, are still very far from allowing the green light of the House to come on. The Popular Party, which voted against in the previous motion presented by Vox, has shown its intention to abstain on this occasion, regardless of who the candidate is. As this newspaper has been reporting, Alberto Núñez Feijóo himself personally asked Tamames not to lead Vox's plan.

Tamames' yes, in any case, does not confirm that he is the one chosen by Vox to lead his motion. Sources from the party leadership, in fact, for the moment deny any agreement with the former PCE deputy, who will make his decision official this Wednesday.
