Karol G gave an interview to El Hormiguero on Tuesday, February 28. The artist presented her new album and talked about TQG, the song she recently released with Shakira.
Pablo Motos asked the interpreter how she composes her songs. "I always start from a personal story of mine or in the work team someone, or a friend, tells me 'Karol, imagine that this is happening to me'. An idea occurs to me and I start writing sentences on the phone," he said.
"For me, finishing the song is the most difficult. I start the idea and, when I develop it, if I had made an intro and I feel that it could be better, I change it. For me the verses have to be just as hard as the intro and the chorus", pointed out the star, who assured that the song has to be "perfect".
"This is the explanation why Becky G's songs later have more than a billion views, which has nothing to do with a coincidence or a stroke of luck, it has to do with a lot of work," Motos released, confusing to the guest with the American singer.
At that moment, the program broadcast a fragment of the TQG video clip and, when Motos appeared on the screen again, he recognized his mistake. "Now there are a lot of people who are pointing a revolver at me. I'm sorry, it was a mistake," said the Valencian.
Karol G told how his collaboration with Shakira in TQG arose. "I had looked for her a long time ago and the opportunity had not been given, she sent me a song in June with which I did not feel connected. It sounds complicated, but I think that when you are going to make music, you have to really feel it ", he confessed.
"This song was born the same day that I wrote the verse to the Mami song with Becky G. I write the song, Mami comes out and I decide that I didn't want to focus my career on all the controversy that came after Mami. I decide that it is a song that I'm going to keep for myself," he said.
"Then I realize the whole situation that Shakira was going through and once again the song makes sense to me. I have a song that I know she can identify with and I think it's the perfect opportunity.
