Used car check: Honda Jazz III is TÜV small car winner 2023

The Honda Jazz III is one of the most practical small cars on the German market. At the TÜV he is doing particularly well. Although it is neither particularly beautiful nor particularly sporty, it convinces with its inner values and its reliability.

Honda Jazz? The Japanese small car is less well known in Germany than its counterparts from Nissan (Micra) and Toyota (Yaris). It has been around for four generations for more than 20 years. The third generation was on offer from 2015 to summer 2020.

body and interior

The Honda Jazz is 4.03 meters long and 1.53 meters high. The Honda designers refrained from experimenting with the five-door model and so the little one drove up without frills. Thanks to its one-box design, passengers enjoy a good amount of space in both rows of seats. The special highlight are the so-called "Magic Seats" in the rear. The rear seat backrests, which are split in a 60:40 ratio, can be folded forward, so the loading volume varies between 354 and 1314 liters. A flat loading floor is also created, which is not a matter of course for small cars.

The passenger backrest can also be folded down. Then 2.48 meter long objects can be loaded. Objects up to 1.28 meters high fit between the front and rear seats if the seat cushions of the rear seats are raised, similar to cinema seats.

At the beginning of 2018, the Jazz received a facelift with the usual ingredients such as a slightly modified radiator grille and modified lighting graphics. Inside, the atmosphere remained matter-of-fact and sober.

engines and propulsion

Those interested in used cars do not have to think long about which engine they want to take. Before the facelift, there was only one engine, a 1.3-liter naturally aspirated engine with 75 kW/102 hp. The engine is not for the impatient, switching work is necessary to bring it up to speed. The standard consumption is around 5 liters.

At the beginning of 2018, Honda added a 1.5-liter direct injection engine with 96 kW/130 hp and 155 Nm. This acts much livelier than the 1.3er. The sprint to country road speed takes 8.7 seconds, and the top speed is 190 km/h. On average, almost 6 liters flow through the pipes. In both units, power is transmitted either via a manual six-speed gearbox or via a continuously variable CVT gearbox.

equipment and security

The Honda Jazz III was no bargain. In 2015, Honda demanded at least 16,000 euros for the small transport miracle, but the basic version included air conditioning, electric helpers for windows and exterior mirrors, a Bluetooth hands-free system, radio with CD player, a height- and depth-adjustable steering wheel, and a height-adjustable driver's seat and heated seats for the driver and front passenger. In the higher equipment lines, assistance systems such as traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning as well as comfort features such as automatic air conditioning and an infotainment system are used. A special feature for a small car is also the intelligent cruise control. It automatically adjusts the maximum speed based on the speed limits detected by traffic sign recognition. In 2015, the Jazz achieved a five-star rating in the NCAP crash test.

quality

The third-generation Honda Jazz can look forward to the "2023 Small Car Winner" award in the current TÜV report. In the main inspections at the TÜV, the Jazz shows itself to be exemplary. The little one completed the criteria of chassis, brakes, light and environment without criticism.

Conclusion: The Honda Jazz is neither pretty nor an athlete, but convinces with its inner values and its reliability. If you are interested in it as a used car, you have to invest at least around 9000 euros. At least 15,000 euros are being asked for the still young 1.5 models.
