Six people have been taken into police custody since the murder investigation began, including a woman. Images recorded by video surveillance cameras show her laboriously carrying away a suitcase in front of the girl's house, which was later found a few blocks away with the girl's body. A homeless man had reported the gruesome find in the courtyard of a building in Paris' 19th arrondissement to the police.
According to prosecutors, the girl's father had previously been concerned because the 12-year-old had not come home from school on Friday afternoon.
