But no end for Technoclub?: Insider takes back Berghain statements

Recently, statements from an insider about the imminent closure of the legendary Berlin club Berghain are making the rounds. Supposedly the operators lost their desire. But now the alleged originator of the rumors is rowing back.

Confusion about Berlin's Berghain: Several media, including ntv.de, reported on Friday about a possible closure of the world-famous techno club. But the insider quoted in it has corrected his statements. According to him, it was false information. There is no official statement from the club operators.

The former editor of the scene magazine "Frontpage", Jürgen Laarmann, writes on Facebook that he had posted the rumor about the closure, "with a big question mark" and the question of whether anyone knew anything more specific. He then called some media representatives. He informed them "a few hours later" that his statements had been "false information". However, the rumor was already in the world.

On Friday, the music magazine "Faze Mag" reported on an insider's post. According to the "Tagesspiegel", this was Laarmann. It said: "Berghain is closing forever! The final end will come this year!" One of the founders has already been paid out and is staying in the countryside in Brandenburg, the others simply "don't feel like it" anymore. Further concepts such as selling to another operator or continuing as an art venue are "apparently not desired," wrote Laarmann.

The speculation about an end to Berghain is not new. The corona pandemic has hit the clubs hard. If there are again club closures or quasi-closures due to a mask requirement this winter, there will probably be no comprehensive help from the Berlin Senate, writes the "Berliner Zeitung". At the beginning of October, the rumor mill was fueled further when the Berghain booking agency Ostgut-Booking surprisingly announced its end. In doing so, she followed the label Ostgut Ton, which is affiliated with the club and has not released anything since last December.
