Finding the right gift for Christmas is not always easy. According to a survey, more than half of all young people are dissatisfied with their gifts. However, there is agreement across all age groups as to which gifts are least well received.
According to a survey, one in four recipients is dissatisfied with a Christmas present. A quarter of those surveyed had no use for the gift, 20 percent said it didn't suit them, and 14 percent also didn't like the design or color, according to the survey by the opinion research institute Yougov on behalf of the eBay classifieds platform. Another 14 percent stated that they already owned the item or a similar one.
Giving presents to young people is particularly difficult: 58 percent of 18 to 24-year-olds said they were not happy with their presents under the tree. In the age group of 35 to 44 year olds it is still 47 percent, in the over 55 year olds the proportion drops to 26 percent.
Across all age groups, there is agreement on which gifts go down least well: sweets, food and delicatessen items. That's what 29 percent of respondents said. 18 percent did not like the gift voucher, and 18 percent also did not like the care and cosmetic products.
While 27 percent of those surveyed try to get something out of the gift and keep it for the time being, 22 percent give it away. For twelve percent of those surveyed, online sales are also a sensible strategy for getting rid of unloved Christmas presents.
Yougov interviewed people in Germany on December 27th and 28th, 2038. According to the information provided, the survey is representative of the population in Germany aged 18 and over.
