Festival: Opera premiere in Salzburg: apocalyptic atmosphere and much applause

The Salzburg Festival served up the deepest fear and despair with the prospect of salvation at the beginning of its premiere series. Tuesday evening's program included Béla Bartók's gloomy one-act play "Bluebeard's Castle" and then Carl Orff's scenic end-of-time oratorio "De temporum fine comoedia".
