Jamal Edwards: Use of cocaine and alcohol shortly before his death

In February 2022, the music world mourned the loss of rapper and entrepreneur Jamal Edwards (1990-2022). The founder of the influential music channel SBTV on YouTube died at the age of just 31 from complications of a heart attack, as his mother, singer Brenda Edwards (53), confirmed to broadcaster ITV. Now new details about the circumstances of the musician's death are known.

The responsible London coroner has now announced that Edwards consumed alcohol and cocaine before his heart attack, which led to cocaine poisoning and subsequent cardiac arrhythmia. This is reported by "The Mirror" and "Sky News", citing the investigation report of the London court.

After the initial investigation in June, Brenda Edwards wrote on Twitter that her son had taken recreational drugs that caused cardiac arrhythmias shortly before his death. "These types of substances" are "unpredictable," says Brenda Edwards, and it's important to talk about them. "Jamal is proof that this can happen to anyone."

Numerous stars publicly said goodbye to the musician in February. For his services to the music scene, Jamal Edwards was appointed MBE by the British royal family in 2015, Member of the Order of the British Empire. In addition to his career as a musician and entrepreneur, he campaigned for education about mental illness.
