Constitutional referendum: Tunisian President Kais Saied - from eloquent "Robocop" to autocrat

94.6 percent - that's the approval for the constitutional reform in Tunisia. However, voter turnout was less than a third; Opposition and opponents of the controversial constitutional amendment had called for an election boycott. Nevertheless, the constitution can come into force.

The new constitution is controversial for several reasons. It no longer provides for an authority that could control the president or even remove him from office. The powers of parliament and the judiciary are weakened.
