Day after storming the Capitol: Trump rehearsing his speech to the nation: "I don't want to say that the election is over"

Around 24 hours after a rampaging mob stormed the Capitol building, injuring dozens and killing five, then-US President Donald Trump wanted to record a speech to the nation. Excerpts of the recording, which were cut from the finished version, were now shown in front of the investigative committee of the House of Representatives. You can see a head of state reading his words from the teleprompter, repeatedly starting over and correcting the speech.

The video makes it clear that even after the day, Trump still refuses to accept the election result and to speak of an "end of the election". "I don't want to say that the election is over," he says - although this was in the draft speech. His daughter Ivanka then helps him find a version he can live with. According to Donald Trump, he can say that Congress has certified the result. But not that the election was over.

Read here what the US President said in the excerpts now shown from January 7, 2021:

"I want to start with yesterday's vile attacks..."

"To those who broke the law: you will pay for it. You do not represent our movement and you do not represent Unterland."

"... but now the election is over, Congress has certified the result. I don't want to say that the election was over. I just want to say that Congress has certified the result without the election being over."

...

"My only goal was to ensure the integrity of the elections"
