The Conservatives in Great Britain do not come to rest - now ex-Health Minister Hancock is causing a stir with his participation in the jungle camp. He is promptly thrown out of his party's faction. However, Hancock would not be the first British politician in the jungle.
British ex-Health Secretary Matt Hancock takes part in the British version of the TV jungle camp - and is therefore expelled from his Conservative Party. Group leader Simon Hart said the matter was serious enough to immediately suspend the 44-year-old. He did not give a precise reason.
Critics accuse Hancock of wanting to polish his image with the performance. He earns extra money instead of taking care of his constituents. Sky News quoted a Hancock confidant as saying the politician wanted the popular show "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" use to get in touch with the average 12 million viewers and also to spread his campaign to promote reading and spelling. Hancock will donate part of his fee.
The former health secretary is seen by many people in the UK as the face of the corona pandemic because of his regular appearances during the peak of Covid-19. He had to resign in June 2021 because he had an affair with a close colleague who violated the strict corona distance rules he had set himself.
Hancock isn't the first politician to be on I'm a Celeb. In 2012, for example, his party friend Nadine Dorries, who later served as Minister of Culture under Prime Minister Boris Johnson, was in the Australian jungle.
