State-of-the-art defense system: Ukraine says thank you for arms deliveries

According to Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov, "a new era of air defense" is beginning with the arms deliveries from the USA and Germany. The politician thanks him on Twitter, but also makes it clear: This delivery can only be the beginning.

After Russia's most recent heavy attacks on its neighboring country, the Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov thanked the US and Germany for arms deliveries. "A new era of air defense" has begun in Ukraine, Resnikov wrote on Twitter that night. The Iris-T air defense system from Germany has already arrived. Nasams rocket launcher systems from the USA are on the way.

"This is just the beginning. And we need more. There is no doubt that Russia is a terrorist state," the minister continued. There is a "moral imperative" to protect the skies over Ukraine in order to save the people. Resnikov thanked his German counterpart, Christine Lambrecht, for their "partnership" and "strong willingness" to support Ukraine. "We will win," Reznikov tweeted.

Lambrecht previously announced that the first of four state-of-the-art Iris-T SLM air defense systems would now be made available to Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Defense, three more units will be delivered in the coming year. According to a "Spiegel" report, the unit has already been handed over.

The FDP politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann also confirmed to "RTL Direkt" on Tuesday evening that the Iris-T system had been handed over. That is "good news," said the chair of the defense committee, "because it naturally also serves to protect cities from rocket attacks, which are completely random and just (...) catch people during the day, smash playgrounds and lots of other things cause suffering!" Resnikov previously thanked the United States on Twitter for four additional Himar-type multiple rocket launchers that had arrived in Ukraine.

The arrival of the armaments means "a good time for the Ukrainians and a bad time for the occupying forces." Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian attackers since February 24 and is also receiving support from abroad in the form of armaments.
