Magdeburg lets Nürnberg suffer: Penalty blunders don't stop HSV for long

Hamburger SV finally wants to return to the Bundesliga. The first half of the season is running - as usual - so far according to measure. Jahn Regensburg makes life difficult for the people of Hamburg, but cannot stop them. In contrast, the Magdeburg team succeeds in the relegation duel with Nuremberg. Fürth redeems itself.

1. FC Nuremberg has still not achieved a home win in the 2nd Bundesliga under coach Markus Weinzierl and is slipping deeper and deeper into the table. The club lost 1:2 (0:0) to newly promoted 1. FC Magdeburg. Cristiano Piccini (58') gave the guests from Saxony-Anhalt the lead, an own goal by goalkeeper Dominik Reimann (64') ensured FCN's happy equaliser. Again Piccini (76th) scored the 2:1 for the FCM with a penalty kick according to video evidence.

The Franconians conceded a defeat after four games and slipped to the penultimate place in the table. The FCM, on the other hand, climbed to 13th place. As in the last three games without conceding, the hosts seemed very compact on the defensive. However, the ideas were missing in the game structure, Magdeburg's defense could only very rarely be embarrassed.

Magdeburg even had better chances. Connor Krempicki (34th) hit the bar with his head. In the second half, the hosts acted more purposefully, but still fell behind. The curious own goal then led to 1:1. But the people of Magdeburg were not deterred.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth has left the relegation zone for the first time in two and a half months. The first division relegated team won 1-0 (1-0) against Eintracht Braunschweig, who were in strong form recently, and thus climbed from the penultimate place in the table. For the new coach Alexander Zorniger it was the second win in the second game.

Armindo Sieb (41st) scored a magic goal with an overhead kick for the first away win for the cloverleaves. The newcomers from Braunschweig could not build on the strong performances of the previous weeks and conceded a defeat after eight unbeaten games. Despite strong previous weeks, the relegation zones are now only two points away.

In a game on a manageable level, Fürth initially gained a slight advantage, Ragnar Ache (18th) narrowly missed the best chance. Ironically, when Braunschweig got into the game a little better, Sieb hit a fantastic overhead kick after a corner. In the second half, the game dragged on for a long time without any major highlights. Filip Benkovic (74') missed Eintracht's best chance with a header against the post.

Late goals from Ransford Königsdörffer and Robert Glatzel gave top favorites Hamburger SV another important victory in their battle for promotion. The former Dresdener Königsdörffer scored in the 79th and Glatzel in the 90th minute to make it 3-1 (1-1) against Jahn Regensburg. With 31 points, HSV moved up to just one point behind table leaders Darmstadt 98.

A week after the 3-2 draw at SC Paderborn, Marion Vuskovic (12th) had made up for Kaan Caliskaner's (7th) early deficit. Glatzel also missed a penalty kick for Hamburg in front of 51,314 spectators (49th). Der Jahn, who had to play without his sick head coach Mersad Selimbegovic, immediately took the first chance: Caliskaner used a through pass from Joshua Mees to score his third goal of the season. The HSV reacted quickly: Vuskovic scored from a distance after an actually unsuccessful pass from Sonny Kittel.

Hamburg's keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandez prevented another deficit with strong saves against Andreas Albers (14th) and Caliskaner (16th). After that, the hosts took control of the game and created their own chances, but Glatzel (25'), Königsdörffer (29') and Kittel (36') all narrowly missed.

Shortly after the break, after a duel between Kittel and Jan Elvedi, referee Sascha Stegemann decided on a penalty when looking at the video evidence, but Glatzel was denied by Jahn goalkeeper Thorsten Kirschbaum (49th), who also defused a Königsdörffer shot six minutes later.

Laszlo Benes just missed the target with a spectacular flight with the heel - and presumably the goal of the year (60th). The action was reminiscent of Fritz Walter's so-called "goal of the century" in 1956. Six minutes later, the ex-Gladbacher hit the post.
