Mason Greenwood in custody: Police arrest ManUnited star

Mason Greenwood is arrested for the second time: The soccer professional, English one-time international in the service of Manchester United, is said to have violated probation conditions.

Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood has been arrested for alleged bail violations. The 21-year-old forward was arrested in January on suspicion of rape and assault but was later released. He was also questioned about alleged death threats.

Greenwood, who has previously played for England, has not yet been charged after his bail was extended in June. According to the BBC, Greenwood was made at his home in Bowdon, Greater Manchester. In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police representative said they were "aware of an allegation against a 21-year-old man for breaching his bail conditions and an arrest was made on Saturday". They added that "the investigation is ongoing at this time". As English media reports, Greenwood is said to have contacted his former girlfriend Harriet Robson without permission.

Robson had posted photos and audio recordings on Instagram on January 30th. It showed some bleeding injuries and bruises on the young woman's body - and apparently Greenwood also heard how the Red Devils' young star wants to force his partner to engage in sexual activity.

The postings in which Greenwood was clearly named as the perpetrator were deleted shortly afterwards. Just a few hours after the first allegations, Greenwood was suspended from his club's games and training sessions until further notice. Nike ended his sponsorship deal with him and Electronic Arts removed him from the active squad for his FIFA 22 game. Greenwood's contract with Manchester United runs until June 30, 2022, and he played his last of 83 Premier League games on January 22 2022 against West Ham United (1-0).

Greenwood became the second Premier League professional in a few months to be suspected of violent behavior against women earlier this year. Manchester City's French world champion Benjamin Mendy was remanded in custody last August on suspicion of multiple sex crimes. The 28-year-old professional suspended by his club has been on trial since August 10 for alleged rape and sexual assault. Mendy still faces seven counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape of seven young women at Chester Crown Court in north-west England.
