Next bankruptcy in Hanover: Bielefeld just can't get back on its feet

An early goal and a very late one ensure that Arminia Bielefeld remains without points in the 2nd Bundesliga - and thus at the bottom of the table. On the 12th match day, the relegated team delivered a dedicated performance, but was unlucky against Hannover 96.

The staggering first division relegated Arminia Bielefeld is still stuck at the end of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. Despite a good performance, the East Westphalians suffered their third defeat in a row with a 0:2 (0:1) at Hannover 96 and have just eight points after twelve games. Cedric Teuchert (4th) and Havard Nielsen (86th) scored in front of 29,200 spectators, as fifth in the table, the Lower Saxony are again very close to the promotion places. Bielefeld pushed for an equalizer for a long time, but was unlucky after two crossbar hits.

The game started extremely badly for the ailing Arminia. After an unnecessary loss of possession, the defense only watched as Teuchert scored his fifth goal of the season after a one-two with Nielsen. Coach Daniel Scherning's team got back on their feet after the 20th minute and almost equalized when Masaya Okugawa (25') headed the bar. Shortly before the break Teuchert increased to the supposed 2:0, but according to the TV pictures the goal was taken back because of a foul in the run-up.

Bielefeld was the more active team in the second half, and Jomaine Consbruch also hit the bar (63'). Instead, Nielsen made everything clear with a header - and sealed Bielefeld's fourth defeat in the last five games.

"The frustration is great because we didn't deserve to lose today," said Arminia striker Janni Serra at Sport1. "The team marched a lot. But if you don't score goals, you can't get any points. The result today is rubbish, the effort was good." Hannover 96 is now playing Borussia Dortmund at home in the DFB Cup on Wednesday evening. The Arminia had significantly more bad luck and has to compete at VfB Stuttgart.
