NFL rookie is out for half a year: "Mr. Irrelevant" Purdy receives a bitter diagnosis

A grab on the throwing arm and the NFL playoff semifinals is over for the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. Brock Purdy can no longer throw, after the defeat and the shattered dream of the Super Bowl, the 23-year-old receives the diagnosis. This forces him to take a long break.

Quarterback Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers suffered a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in the elbow of his throwing arm in the playoff semifinals of the NFL professional football league, according to consistent media reports. The rookie will be out for six months.

Purdy was injured early in the duel with the Philadelphia Eagles (7:31) when an opponent grabbed his arm before trying to throw. Purdy could either have a tendon graft reconstruction known as a Tommy John operation or repair the damaged ligament. The 23-year-old wants to get a second medical opinion in order to make a decision about an operation. The club recommends the procedure. If everything goes smoothly, the youngster would be fit again at the start of the training camp before the new season.

The football pro had caused a stir with his performances this season and led the 49ers to the finals of the NFC despite being only number three in the quarterback rankings at the start of the season. He only took over as quarterback after injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. Josh Johnson replaced him in the semifinals after the incident, but he also had to sit out with a concussion. Purdy returned but was unable to throw.

In the last NFL draft, Purdy was selected 262nd and last, earning him the title of "Mr. Irrelevant" as a supposedly insignificant player. But the newcomer convinced all along the line and remained undefeated until the semi-finals. The loss to the Eagles was Purdy's only loss in nine NFL games.
