FC Bayern wants to extend the contract with its sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić. "I'm absolutely satisfied with his work. Hasan also enjoys it a lot. Also because he's getting recognition for his work. I'm very confident about that," said club president Herbert Hainer (68) to Sky TV in an interview when asked whether a contract extension with Salihamidžić (45) was a mere formality.
The former Bayern professional became sports director for the German record champions in 2017 and was promoted to the board in the summer of 2020. This was associated with a new contract until the end of June 2023.
On how to proceed, Hainer said: "We said that we would first wait for the transfer period. We all have enough to do. As soon as that is over, we'll take a few more days of vacation, then we'll sit down. There's still a year to go , but we'll do that in the next few weeks. Then we'll talk to each other and get things done."
As a reminder, Salihamidžić has been publicly criticized for transfers in the past. He also messed with ex-coach Hansi Flick. A dispute that almost cost him his job at Bayern. The publicly expressed squad dissent between the sports director and the current national coach drove the club to the brink of collective despair, but Salihamidžić stayed and Flick lost the fight. The purchases of Sadio Mané (Liverpool), Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch (both Ajax Amsterdam) and Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus Turin) brought the 45-year-old a lot of recognition.
"I've always thought that in recent years he has been criticized too much and wrongly. On the one hand he has been accused of one or the other transfer, but he has not been credited with the fact that we will have three in 2020 won titles," said Hainer.
