Far-reaching disruptions: Whatsapp was down in the morning

Apparently, a far-reaching disruption occurred in the Whatsapp messenger service in the morning: It was not possible to send and receive messages with the service's app for several hours. The complaints are piling up in the online networks.

The messenger service WhatsApp went down in large parts of the world in the morning. Numerous users in Europe, Asia and Africa reported problems sending and receiving texts and videos by noon. Disturbances have been reported from Germany, Great Britain, India and South Africa, for example.

Upon opening the app, users found that while they could still access their conversations, they were no longer able to receive or send any new messages. Many users were seeing a message at the top of the app stating that the server was connecting, but it wasn't.

Both Android smartphone users and Apple iPhones were affected. The reason for the disruption in several countries was not initially known. "We are aware that some people are currently experiencing sending and messaging issues and we are working to restore WhatsApp as soon as possible," said a spokesman for WhatsApp's parent company Meta.
