Gabby Petito, the US influencer who disappeared while traveling with her boyfriend, died strangled, according to the autopsy, the authorities reported on Tuesday.
"The cause of death is a strangulation, so it is a homicide," said Dr. Brent Blue, at a press conference in Wyoming, where the body of the 22-year-old girl was found.
Dr. Blue specified that Petito's body must have been exposed for three to four weeks. The young woman she made a road trip with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, until her family reported her disappearance on September 11.
Laundrie returned from the trip only to her family's house in Florida. The FBI issued an arrest warrant, but the 23-year-old girl left his parents' house and is missing.
Dr. Blue did not want to set suspects underlining that the autopsy only throws the cause of death.
The disappearance of Petito shocked the United States. Influencer, with more than one million followers on Instagram, portrayed idyllic images of her travel on her account, some of them next to Laundrie. The couple became intercepted by officers on the road in the middle of a discussion.
