Hesse: Multi-generational project awarded demography prize

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The "Marketplace - Workplace - Playground" project in Butzbach in the Wetteraukreis district has been awarded the Hessian Demography Prize. Under the motto "Together instead of alone", the dasgute.haus cooperative brings people and families together at the multi-generational meeting place, said the head of the State Chancellery, Minister of State Axel Wintermeyer (CDU), on Thursday at the award ceremony.

The first prize is worth 8,000 euros, the Hessian Demography Prize is endowed with a total of 24,000 euros. According to the state chancellery, second place was shared by the Schwalm-Aue museum bus in the Schwalm-Eder district and the project "Youth-friendly towns and communities - youth-friendly district of Giessen". Three third prizes go to the volunteer-run public village pool in Lingelbach in Vogelsbergkreis, the "Neue Mitte Village Meeting" with shop and bistro in Nidda-Wallernhausen in Wetteraukreis and the "Hof Tolle Competence Center" in Calden-Fürstenwald in North Hesse.

Since 2010, the state government has been awarding the Demography Prize to projects and initiatives that counteract demographic change with innovative and creative ideas. There were more than 80 applications this year, according to the State Chancellery.
