Hesse: Prime Minister speaks of enormous damage to documenta

Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Hesse's Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) spoke of enormous damage to the art exhibition because of the anti-Semitism scandal at the documenta. "We will now have to talk very intensively about whether the structures of the documenta are still up to date," said the head of government to the "Wiesbadener Kurier" (Friday). This applies not least to the question of who is responsible for documenta. "I have always wished that the federal government would become an additional shareholder alongside the state of Hesse and the city of Kassel."

It is clear that artistic freedom also has its limits and that anti-Semitism will never be accepted. "And the visual language of the dismantled work of art from "Taring Padi" was extremely anti-Semitic and has no place at a German art exhibition," emphasized the Prime Minister. "Nor do I accept anti-Semitism disguised as criticism of Israel."

Rhein also told the newspaper that the Hessian judiciary would be better staffed. "We are now launching a pact for the rule of law in Hesse: Among other things, it stipulates that we will set up a large job program for the Hessian judiciary." A young talent program will be launched to ensure that the judicial service continues to be attractive. "We will create new jobs in the judiciary in a higher double-digit number in both budget years in the double budget," announced the head of government. "This affects the public prosecutor's office, the courts, but of course also the so-called subordinate area."
